This Dark-Purple, mulberry silk handloom Banarasi satin weave from ourSoie Collectionis woven using the kadhwa weave.
Five weft threads of pure mulberry silk are woven over a single warp thread using a tool called a heald shaft (or kaadi in local terminology). While these are commonly called mashru satin, they actually just use the weaving technique of mashru silks. True mashru silk uses silk warp facing outwards and cotton weft facing inwards to respect religious injunctions – it's root word has an Arabic origin meaning ‘permitted or allowed’.
Since more than double the amount of pure mulberry silk is used in weaving these satin textures, the silk is heavier, creamier, and denser. The saree falls in a soft cascade.
